notes/

  • Slides from a South Seattle College talk for students entering the tech industry: application and interview processes, sample questions, and advice.

  • Apache James 2.3.2's user-creation flaw (CVE-2015-7611) lets attackers plant commands in /etc/bash_completion.d for remote code execution, with mitigations.

  • Extending Java's java.util.Properties with namespaced keys and a '*' default to merge per-environment config files, illustrated with a log4j example.

  • A Java implementation of William Pugh's skip list as a java.util.AbstractMap, using probabilistic balancing in place of balanced trees, with unit tests.

  • Writing an MS-DOS-compatible boot sector in C: parsing the FAT BIOS parameter block, finding IO.SYS, and loading it via BIOS INT 13h in real mode.

  • A Perl script that updates a FreeDNS dynamic DNS A record when it no longer matches the caller's public IP, with nameserver and force-update flags.

  • Developing KDE 3.2 applications and Kicker panel applets in C++: KConfig XT settings, DCOP interprocess communication, and Qt-based event handling.
